Authorities Probe Woman’s Body Found Inside Refrigerator in Rizal Apartment
Authorities are investigating a case after the body of a woman was discovered inside a refrigerator in a rented apartment in Rodriguez, Rizal.
The 30-year-old victim had only recently moved into the apartment located in Barangay San Jose. According to initial information gathered by police, she was living there with a man believed to be her live-in partner.
The apartment owner discovered the body after he became concerned when she could no longer contact the tenant. The owner had last spoken with the woman on September 9 while arrangements were being made for the signing of the rental contract.
After several failed attempts to reach the tenant, the owner decided to visit the apartment. Upon arriving, she noticed a strong foul odor coming from the unit and observed flies around the area. Alarmed by the situation, she immediately sought assistance from authorities.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the woman’s body wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a refrigerator that had fallen on its side. Investigators believe the body began to emit a strong odor after the appliance was no longer able to keep its contents cold.
“Nasa decomposition stage na siya. Medyo mahirap na siya ma-identify,” Valencia Memorial Services officer-in-charge Michael Soriano.
Based on the initial findings, authorities suspect that the victim may have been strangled before her body was hidden inside the refrigerator. A rope believed to be connected to the incident was also recovered at the scene and is now being examined as evidence.
Neighbors told investigators that they last saw the woman alive on the morning of September 10 when she received a delivery. Later that evening, some residents reportedly heard a loud crashing sound that may have been caused by the refrigerator falling over.
Police have identified the man who was staying with the victim as a person of interest and are currently searching for him. Investigators also discovered that the driver’s license he submitted to the apartment owner was allegedly fake.
Authorities are now verifying other identification documents connected to the case as the investigation continues.
