2 Police Officers Elicits Criticism for Hurting Civilian in Puerto Princesa

Two police officers have been reported for allegedly hurting and harassing a civilian during an incident in Puerto Princesa City.

The victim identified as Ricky Suyat was allegedly approached by two members of the city police along Valencia Street. He claimed that one of the officers had a personal grudge against him because he had previously filed a complaint against the officer before the National Police Commission over a personal matter.

According to Suyat, the incident began when a police mobile passed through Burgos Street and the officers noticed his 13-year-old daughter crying. He said he was scolding his daughter at the time because it was already late in the afternoon and she was still outside.

Suyat claimed that the two officers then confronted him and that one of them attempted to put handcuffs on him. He said he ran away and was followed by the officers until they reached Valencia Street.

It was there, according to his account, that the alleged physical assault happened. Suyat claimed that the officers briefly choked and hit him during the confrontation.

The victim also denied claims that he was drunk during the incident. Suyat explained that he was simply worried about his daughter and was disciplining her as a concerned father.

Another concern raised by Suyat was the alleged attempt to take his cellphone while the confrontation was happening. He believed that the move may have been intended to prevent him from recording or keeping evidence related to the incident.

The cops have since been relieved from their posts while an investigation is underway. Authorities are expected to review the accounts of those involved and gather other evidence to determine the details about the incident.

Meanwhile, the latter said he plans to pursue the appropriate complaints against the officers.
