Mother Gives Birth at Evacuation Center in Tabaco, Albay During Typhoon Uwan 

A mother gives birth at an evacuation center in Tabaco City, Albay, during the devastation of Typhoon Uwan. 

On Sunday (November 9, 2025), a heartwarming moment happened at an evacuation center in Tabaco City, Albay, in heartwarming moment unfolded at an evacuation center in Tabaco City, Albay, when a 24-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy.  

The unexpected delivery happened at the Tabaco National High School, where several families had sought shelter from the storm. The mother was assisted by a registered nurse and barangay councilor, Lloyd Bechayda, who quickly stepped in to help as she went into labor.

Shortly after, a doctor from the Tabaco City Health Unit arrived to provide medical support and ensure the safety of both the mother and the newborn. 

Inside the evacuation center, nine families were staying together, all of whom united to help during the delivery. In a touching display of teamwork and compassion, fellow evacuees cheered and encouraged the mother, shouting “push” in unison while the storm continued to rage outside. 

After two long hours, the cries of the newborn filled the room, a sign of hope amid the chaos brought by the typhoon.

The baby, described as healthy and strong, became a symbol of new beginnings for everyone in the center. With smiles and laughter replacing their earlier fears, the evacuees decided to suggest a name for the newborn “Huwan,” inspired by the storm that marked his unexpected arrival into the world. 

Despite the situation, the incident reminded everyone that even in times of disaster, life continues to find a way.
