With no one still held accountable over the massive anomalies in the flood control projects, Vice President Sara Duterte has this to say about it.
Millions of people are suffering from the aftermath of strong typhoons, Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan. The calamities made people wonder what could have happened if only the funds for flood control were used properly.
The funds may not stop the strong typhoons and other calamities from happening, but they can significantly improve and complete the infrastructure needed to reduce their impact to save lives and homes. More importantly, for breaking the cycle.
Sarah and Curlee Discaya’s construction firms are among the 15 companies that cornered billions in government flood control projects. However, instead of being held accountable, they were held as state witnesses because of the details they hold about the issue, apparently.
Former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, who was tagged in the billions of pesos worth of anomalies in the flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is abroad and has no plans on going back because of the threats.
The investigation is still ongoing, and while no one has been imprisoned yet, Vice President Sara Duterte expressed her rage. According to her, a lot of Filipinos are just as mad as her because of the anomalies and corruption.
“Alam na natin na mayroong problema sa budget, alam na natin kung sino yung mga tao na may kagagawan noong anomalya, korapsyon sa ating budget pero hanggang ngayon ay wala pa ring nananagot, puro lang imbestigasyon,” she said.
With regard to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), created to investigate flood control anomalies in the past decade, she believed and still believes that this was made to “control the story and narrative” on the controversy.
“Nag-aantay tayo sa mga mananagot sa budget insertions, sa ghost projects, substandard projects at sa mga unfinished projects dahil alam naman natin na kadalasan yung unfinished projects ay korapsyon din yan,” she added, and expressed how unfinished infrastructure projects are also prone to corruption.
She reiterated that it’s just a cycle of stealing.
