Police Officer Issues Apology After Alleged Assault Against College Student
A police official issued an apology over alleged assault and threat against a college student in Trece Martires City, Cavite.
A Police Senior Master Sergeant accused of hitting, punching, and threatening the life of a 20-year-old college student in Trece Martires City, Cavite has publicly apologized and admitted his wrongdoing.
The police officer expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged that he had made a serious mistake. He said he was ready to face whatever decisions and actions authorities would take regarding the case.
However, the suspect declined to discuss his version of the events that took place on August 27, 2026. Instead, he said he would explain his side before the court since charges had already been filed against him.
The officer also extended an apology to the victim and the victim’s family. He said his apology came from the heart and was not intended to influence the case or seek special treatment. He admitted responsibility for his actions and asked for forgiveness for the pain he had caused.
Meanwhile, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) discovered allegations that a police captain, who is reportedly the suspect’s brother, may have influenced the investigation. According to authorities, the officer handling the case was allegedly advised to file a lesser complaint instead of a more serious charge.
Patrolman Rolyn Pagayon, the investigator assigned to the case, revealed that he initially believed attempted homicide was the proper charge because the victim’s motorcycle was allegedly rammed by a vehicle, suggesting possible intent to kill.
He said suggestions from others affected the filing of the case, preventing what he believed was the appropriate charge from being submitted. Because of these allegations, NAPOLCOM Commissioner Rafael Calinisan ordered a separate investigation into the suspect’s brother.
Authorities are also looking into the possibility of revoking the suspect’s driver’s license after reports that he was driving while under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
“Nanawagan ako sa kapatid natin na si USEC Markus Lacanilao, itong taong ito, ay nagda-drive ng kotse na lango sa alak. Sabagay, hindi naman niya kailangan ng lisensya sa loob ng kulungan. Pero, baka dapat i-revoke din natin yung kanyang lisensya,” Calinisan said.
On the same day, Patrolman Pagayon formally submitted his affidavit to NAPOLCOM as part of the ongoing investigation.
