Mother of 15-Year-Old Girl Who Died While Riding a Motorcycle Taxi Appeals for Assistance from the Company
The mother of a 15-year-old student who died in a motorcycle taxi accident in Puerto Princesa City seeks more assistance from the company.
On September 2, 2026, the victim, identified as Jezelle, was a Grade 10 student who lost her life after a crash along Abanico Road in Barangay San Pedro. Her sudden death left her family grieving and struggling with the expenses related to her wake and burial.
According to her mother, Juliet Mediario, the assistance provided so far has been limited. She shared that the family initially received P20,000 and was informed that efforts were being made to secure additional help.
However, as preparations for the funeral continue, the family is still waiting for further support.
She also noted that the company operating the truck involved in the incident had reportedly extended more assistance than the motorcycle taxi company. This has added to the family’s disappointment as they continue to seek help during a difficult time.
The accident has also raised concerns about the operation of motorcycle taxis in Puerto Princesa City. Vice Mayor Jimbo Maristela explained that passengers involved in accidents while riding motorcycle taxis may face difficulties in claiming insurance benefits because such services are reportedly operating without a franchise and are considered illegal in the city.
Earlier police reports stated that the motorcycle taxi driver allegedly attempted to overtake a truck from the right side. During the maneuver, the motorcycle reportedly became entangled with a hanging cable that the driver failed to notice.
The vehicle then lost control, causing the passenger to be thrown toward the truck, resulting in fatal injuries.
As the family mourns the loss of a young life, they continue to hope for more assistance and accountability from those involved while authorities further examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
