Cops Arrest 6 Members of ‘Spaghetti Gang’ Arrested for Stealing Cable Wires
Six members of the so-called “Spaghetti Gang” were arrested after they were caught stealing telecommunication copper cable wires.
On Saturday morning (September 5, 2026), the suspects were nabbed for stealing cable wires worth nearly P240,000 in Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City.
Authorities said the group had been pretending to be legitimate for telecommunications workers to carry out their activities. They reportedly wore reflectorized safety vests and brought traffic cones to make it appear that they were conducting authorized maintenance work in the area.
“Grupo sila ng spaghetti gang. Sila yung nagpanggap na miyembro ng telco, nakasuot sila ng reflectorized vest at may dala-dala silang mga cone… Base sa imbestigasyon natin, ibinebenta nila yung nakukuha nilang cable wires sa mga junkshop,” Novaliches Police Station deputy station commander Police Major Jonathan Reyes said.
According to the police investigation, the suspects had been removing cable wires and later selling them to junk shops for profit. Their scheme was discovered after a concerned citizen noticed suspicious activity and immediately reported it to the authorities.
Police officers and barangay public safety personnel quickly responded to the report and caught the suspects while they were pulling and loading cable wires into a closed van. When questioned, the men were unable to present any documents or permits proving that they were authorized to handle or remove the cables.
As a result, the six suspects were arrested on the spot. Authorities also seized the van they were using, along with around 28 meters of copper cable wire. Chains and two saws believed to have been used in the operation were also recovered during the arrest.
Investigators revealed that several other members of the group managed to escape before the authorities arrived. Police are now conducting follow-up operations to locate and arrest the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
Further investigation also showed that one of the arrested men, a 34-year-old suspect, had previously been linked to illegal drug and gambling cases.
The suspects declined to give detailed statements regarding the allegations. They are currently being held at the custodial facility of the Novaliches Police Station while facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 10515, also known as the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013.
