Transgender Student Claims She Was Humiliated During Campus Dress Code Inspection
A transgender student in Batangas expressed her distress after allegedly being ordered by a school guard to remove her bra in a public area.
Jamie Alday, a first-year College of Teacher Education student at Batangas State University–The National Engineering University (BatStateU-TNEU) Lipa Campus, said the incident happened on September 8, 2026, while she was entering the school wearing her Physical Education uniform.
According to Alday, everything seemed normal at first. Her bag was inspected, and she was initially allowed to proceed. However, another security officer later checked her identification card and asked her to remove her earrings as part of the school’s dress code enforcement.
Alday claimed that the security personnel instructed her to remove her bra while she was still in the campus lobby. The area was reportedly filled with students and other personnel, making the situation even more uncomfortable for her.
She said many people nearby turned their attention toward her, causing her to feel embarrassed in a public setting.
The student explained that the guard allegedly referred to dress code rules that apply to male students. Since she was reportedly categorized under that section, she was told that certain feminine items were not allowed.
However, Alday questioned the basis of the instruction, saying she found no rule that specifically prohibited wearing a bra or required students to remove undergarments during inspections.
She refused to comply, explaining that doing so would have caused her further discomfort and embarrassment in front of other people. She also claimed that she was warned about possible violations if a similar situation occurred again.
The university’s Office of Student Discipline later clarified that its guidelines do not contain any procedure requiring students to remove undergarments during inspections. Officials said students who violate dress code policies may face appropriate sanctions or be denied entry, but there is no rule directing on-the-spot removal of such items.
The university offices and student leaders reportedly reached out to Alday. The matter remains under review as the school continues to gather information and examine the circumstances surrounding the complaint.
