Pia Cayetano Finally Explains Her Singapore Trip
PIA CAYETANO – After becoming the subject of questions about her whereabouts, Sen. Pia Cayetano has spoken out and explained why she traveled to Singapore.
Sen. Pia Cayetano has clarified that she is currently in Singapore to show her support for the Philippine national padel team, addressing questions and speculation surrounding her whereabouts.
In a Facebook livestream that lasted nearly 30 minutes and was posted at around 5 p.m. on September 11, Cayetano explained that there was no attempt to conceal her location. She also questioned why her trip had generated public interest in the first place.
“Balita ko, ang daming naghahanap sa akin… Para namang napakalaking sikreto kung saan ako pumunta eh hindi naman siya secret,” she said.
“Pati ba naman kung saan ako pumunta ay newsworthy na pala,” she added.
The senator revealed that she went to Singapore specifically to cheer for the Philippine padel national team, which is currently participating in tune-up matches as part of the Asia-Pacific Padel Tour. The competition serves as preparation for the upcoming Asian Games.
“I’m in Singapore, guys, and I’ll tell you why. I’m with our national team. Our Padel National Team. Alam niyo naman I am an avid supporter of our national team. Kung kaya ko puntahan kung nasaan sila para magsupport, I will do that,” she said.
Cayetano emphasized that her Singapore trip had already been planned and was part of her continuing efforts to support Filipino athletes. She clarified that she was not in the country to compete herself but to encourage members of the national squad.
“I came to Singapore to support our national team… Hindi ho ako pumunta para sumali. Pumunta ako para mag-support ng athletes,” she said.
She also disclosed that she had received an invitation to participate in a professional padel competition. However, she declined the opportunity because of her need to return to the Philippines.
“It’s an honor for me na ma-imbita ako… Tumanggi na lang po talaga ako kasi hindi rin po ako pwedeng magtagal dahil kailangan ko pong bumalik,” she said.
During her livestream, Cayetano also introduced several members of the Philippine padel team as they prepared for their games. She once again expressed her commitment to supporting Filipino athletes whenever her schedule allows.
“Thank you guys for all the support. Alam na alam niyo naman na support na support ko ang mga athlete. Kahit na anong maitulong ko sa kanila, kahit na busy ako. I’m an athlete at heart,” she said.
Her explanation came as questions about her whereabouts circulated alongside reports involving her and her brother, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, including matters related to the Bureau of Immigration.
