CCTV Captures Fight Involving Coast Guard Trainees at Resort in Bulacan
A fight involving personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and a resort guest in Bulacan was caught on CCTV.
The incident happened on the evening of September 12 at a resort in Barangay Borol, Balagtas, Bulacan, where several PCG trainees were staying due to their proximity to a training center.
Based on CCTV footage, one PCG personnel was seen repeatedly punching a resort guest, who was also a friend of the resort owner. The video showed the guest falling several times and attempting to move away, but the punches allegedly continued.
Another PCG personnel was also seen pushing the companion of the guest during the confrontation. The altercation only ended after another Coast Guard member stepped in and stopped the fight.
According to the complainant, the trouble began when he and his companion arrived at the resort and asked a man near the gate if their friend was there. Believing the person was connected to the resort, they approached him for assistance.
After being told that he did not know the person they were looking for, the complainant entered the resort.
However, the complainant said the man followed them inside. After a brief exchange, the situation quickly became heated, and a physical confrontation broke out. Police records indicated that the Coast Guard personnel involved felt offended by the manner in which the question was asked.
The personnel also admitted having consumed alcohol before the incident. The complainant suffered scratches and injuries on different parts of his body. He later expressed disappointment after learning that those involved were members of a uniformed government service.
PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said the complainant and the Coast Guard personnel had already met before barangay and police officials and reached a settlement. Despite this, the agency will continue its own investigation.
The Coast Guard also encouraged the complainant to file a formal complaint with its Internal Affairs Service so the incident can be properly reviewed and appropriate action can be taken if necessary.
