Aiko Melendez Remembers Papa Jimi as Wedding to Onemig Bondoc Draws Near
Actress and Quezon City councilor Aiko Melendez marked her late father’s birthday with an emotional message, saying she wishes he were still around as she gets ready to marry her fiancé, Onemig Bondoc.
As reported by ABS-CBN News, Aiko posted the tribute on November 1 together with a photo of Onemig proposing to her beside the tomb of her father, actor Jimi Melendez. “On your birthday, Papa Jimmy, @uno_111 and I want to honor and remember you,” she wrote.

The actress shared that Onemig made sure her father would be part of their upcoming wedding in a “very special way.” She added that even if Jimi is no longer physically present, she believes he will be with them in spirit as she finally walks down the aisle.
Aiko also described the kind of partner she has found in Onemig. “Papa, I want you to know that I am finally in the arms of the kind of man you always prayed I would find,” she said, describing him as someone who respects her, protects her peace, and loves her with all his heart.
She went on to say that her “heart is at peace” as she prepares for married life, though she wished her father could see for himself that his daughter is happy, secure, and deeply loved.
The tomb has a special meaning for the couple. Based on a report by Philstar.com, Onemig popped the question in early October at Himlayang Pilipino, where Jimi’s urn is buried, choosing the spot because Aiko regularly visits her father around his birthday. Jimi, a former Quezon City councilor, passed away in 1997 at the age of 41.
Aiko earlier admitted to Daily Tribune that she had no hint of the proposal, thinking the cemetery visit was just another day of vlogging. According to GMA News, the two confirmed their relationship in February, 29 years after their love story began, and both are annulled from previous marriages.
Aiko closed her message by greeting her father a happy birthday in heaven, promising that he will always have a place in her heart, in her children’s lives, and on one of the most important days of her life with Onemig.
