Senior Citizen Loses His Life After Being Hit on the Head by Man in Kabankalan
A senior citizen died after being repeatedly struck on the head by a man who was denied a cigarette in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
A 63-year-old senior citizen died after being repeatedly hit on the head by a man in Sitio Banbam, Barangay Locotan at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday (October 25, 2026).
The victim was identified as alias Leticia, while the suspect was identified as alias Gerald, 45. Both were residents of the same area.
Based on the initial police investigation, the incident started when the suspect went to a small store owned by a woman identified as alias Nerly to ask for a cigarette. However, the store owner refused to give him one, which reportedly angered him.
The suspect then allegedly forced his way into the store and took cigarettes from a jar, along with alcoholic drinks. At the time, he was carrying a branch from a sarali tree.
Fearing for her safety, the store owner ran away. The suspect reportedly chased her, but during the pursuit, he came across Leticia, who was sitting on a bench nearby.
Instead of continuing after the store owner, the suspect allegedly struck the elderly woman on the head with the wooden branch. He reportedly hit her several times, causing her to fall to the ground.
Police said there was no known previous conflict between the victim and the suspect, according to PLT Gilbert Alunan, deputy chief of the Kabankalan Component City Police Station.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and preparing the necessary documents to file a murder case against the suspect. Police have yet to disclose further details about the suspect’s motive for attacking the victim.
