Sagay Mayor Orders Review After Mother Claims Hospital Sent Home Child Later Diagnosed With Dengue
A mother gets upset after hospital in Sagay City, Negros Occidental sent home her child with a high fever and later diagnosed with dengue at another hospital.
A mother has expressed disappointment with the care her child received at Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Sagay City after the child was reportedly sent home with a high fever and later diagnosed with dengue at another hospital.
Around 9 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, the mother said she brought her child to the hospital when the child’s temperature had reached 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.

The woman claimed that her child waited several hours before receiving intravenous fluids. She also raised concerns about the lack of a clear explanation of the laboratory results and the child’s condition.
According to the mother, hospital personnel told her that the fever could be treated at home and that they could leave. However, she said the child’s fever remained high, prompting her to seek medical care at another hospital in Escalante City.
The mother later learned that her child had tested positive for dengue, contrary to the acute gastritis finding she said was given at the first hospital. She also expressed concern over changes in the child’s laboratory results, including a reported drop in platelet count.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and the hospital’s response was still being sought by local media.
Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Bebo Cueva said on October 26 that the city government was taking the complaint seriously and had scheduled a meeting with hospital administrators and concerned personnel.
The review will examine the child’s medical records, determine whether proper procedures were followed, and address the family’s concerns. Cueva also stressed that every patient deserves respectful and compassionate care.
He said corrective action would be taken if any shortcomings were found, while the privacy of the child, family, and hospital personnel would be protected throughout the review.
The city government has yet to announce the findings of its investigation.
