Authorities Arrest Bank Manager Who Allegedly Steals P16 Million in Agusan del Sur

A bank manager who allegedly took P16 million from the bank where she worked in Agusan del Sur was arrested in Quezon City.

Authorities have arrested a 37-year-old female bank manager who was wanted for qualified theft after allegedly taking P16 million from the bank where she worked in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.

The arrest took place in a condominium located in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City, following a tip from an informant that led police to her hiding place.

According to police, officers first verified the identity of the suspect through careful intelligence work before serving the arrest warrant. After confirming her presence at the condominium, the police moved in and successfully arrested her without incident on December 20, 2025.

“Nag-conduct kami ng intelligence gathering and then tinignan namin ‘yung veracity nung identification nung tao. True enough, siya nga ‘yon, kaya sinerve namin ‘yung warrant,” Tubiera said.

Investigators revealed that the suspect used her position and access as a bank manager to withdraw large amounts of money on two separate occasions.

The first incident involved P3 million taken from the ATM vault, while the second involved a much larger amount of P13 million taken directly from the bank’s main vault. These transactions raised serious concerns within the bank.

The missing funds were discovered in October 2024 when bank officials noticed unusual discrepancies in their records. As the investigation began, the bank planned to transfer the manager to another assignment.

However, she stopped reporting work and eventually fled to Quezon City in an attempt to avoid authorities.

Since the stolen money was never returned, the bank proceeded to file formal charges against her. A warrant of arrest was later issued in February 2025, leading to her eventual capture months later.

While in police custody, the suspect admitted that she was overwhelmed by debt and acted alone in taking the money. She also shared that feelings of guilt eventually pushed her to stop going to work.

The accused is currently detained at the Pasong Putik Police Station and is set to be flown back to Bayugan City to face the charges filed against her in court.
