Pres. Bongbong Marcos has this statement in line with the celebration of National Heroes’ Day
President Bongbong Marcos stressed that it is not enough to simply remember our heroes because it is more important to embody their courage and love for the country.
This was his reminder to Filipinos as the nation observes National Heroes’ Day this Monday, August 31.
In his message commemorating the day honoring Filipino heroes, based on the article in Bandera, the Chief Executive of the Philippines urged the public to reflect not only on the sacrifices they made for the country but also on the values they upheld that continue to serve as an inspiration to the present generation.
President Bongbong Marcos stressed that every Filipino has a “solemn duty” to continue the fight and the dream for the nation, which those who came before us fought and sacrificed their lives.
“Our forebears won our freedom, defended our dignity, and laid the foundations of the Republic we cherish,” he said.
For the President, one of the best ways to honor heroes is to make their courage and love for the Philippines part of everyday life.
“We honor them best by embodying their courage, keeping the flame of patriotism alive, and becoming the citizens our country needs,” the President said.
Marcos also emphasized that the spirit of heroes is not found solely in the names appearing in books or on monuments, but their spirit lives on in those who choose to “serve, care, and contribute to a cause greater than oneself.”
This includes soldiers and first responders who are ready to face danger to keep others safe. “We recognize it in our teachers, health workers, farmers, fisherfolk and overseas Filipinos who sustain our families and communities,” he said.
He also pointed out that there is no need to be famous or a well-known personality in order to be called a hero.
“We find it in every citizen who helps a neighbor, protects the vulnerable, and works honestly for the common good,” the President pointed out.
In the end, the President urged every Filipino to continue proving themselves worthy of the freedom fought for by the heroes. President Bongbong Marcos also hopes that Filipinos can work together to build a nation they can be proud of and pass on with love to future generations.
