Chiz Escudero Thanks Marcos as BSKE Elections Move to 2028
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The 2026 BSKE will no longer push through as scheduled after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12326, prompting a message of gratitude from Sen. Chiz Escudero.
Sen. Chiz Escudero has expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for signing Republic Act No. 12326, which postpones the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
The law moves the elections, originally scheduled for November 2, 2026, to November 2028. The development was confirmed by Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro during a press conference in Bitac City, Ilocos Norte, on Friday, September 25, 2026.
According to Castro, Marcos has already signed the measure, which was authored and sponsored by Escudero. With the new law now in effect, the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs), which had been scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026, has also been canceled.
Escudero welcomed the President’s action and publicly thanked him for promptly signing the legislation. In a statement shared by the People’s Television Network (PTV) on its Facebook page on Friday, the senator highlighted the purpose of the newly enacted law.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa Pangulo sa agarang pagsasabatas sa Republic Act No. 12326,” he said.
Escudero said the legislation is intended to improve the system governing the terms of barangay officials and establish a clearer cycle in local barangay administration.
“Bilang pangunahing may-akda ng nasabing panukala sa Senado, malinaw sa atin na ang layunin ng batas na ito ay ayusin ang sistema at tiyakin na may malinaw na ikot o siklo sa pamamahala sa barangay,” he said.
The senator emphasized that having an organized and predictable term structure is connected to the delivery of public services at the barangay level. He said the measure seeks to provide a clearer arrangement for the terms of local officials within their respective communities.
The postponement means barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials will continue under the revised schedule, with the next elections now set for November 2028.
Escudero ended his statement by underscoring the connection between properly structured terms and effective public service.
“Kapag maayos ang termino, maayos din ang serbisyo,” Escudero concluded.
