Customer Orders Cellphone From Overseas Seller But Receives Soap
A customer was left heartbroken after receiving a parcel containing soap instead of the cellphone that had been ordered from an overseas seller.
Pasig City Police is currently investigating the case as the authorities continue to look into reports of parcels being tampered with before reaching buyers.
According to the complaint, the customer purchased and paid for a cellphone through an online platform. The seller, who was based overseas, reportedly confirmed the payment and shipped the item within the agreed period.
The buyer patiently waited for the package, expecting to receive the gadget that had been ordered.
However, when the parcel arrived and was opened, the customer was shocked to find bars of soap inside the box instead of the cellphone. The incident immediately raised concerns and led to a formal complaint.
Based on the initial police investigation, the seller appears to have properly sent the item. Authorities believe the problem may have happened after the package arrived in the Philippines. Investigators discovered indications that the parcel’s contents may have been switched somewhere between the warehouse and the final delivery stage.
Police have already conducted operations related to the case and have taken one person into custody. The individual was identified as the rider who delivered the package to the complainant.
However, he denied being directly involved in the alleged switching of items and claimed that his role was limited to delivering parcels.
Further investigation suggests that a larger group may be behind the scheme. Authorities are looking into information that some former and current employees of an international delivery company could be involved in the operation.
Follow-up investigations and operations are now underway to identify other individuals who may have participated in the alleged fraud.
Police officials reminded the public to be careful when shopping online and to transact only through trusted platforms.
