DILG Shares Mugshot of Martin Romualdez After Arrest Over Plunder Case

DILG has released the official mugshot of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez following his arrest in connection with a P7.4 billion plunder case.

On Monday (September 7, 2026), the authorities served the warrant of arrest while Romualdez was confined at a hospital. He is currently under the custody of the Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).

On Tuesday (September 8), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) released the official mugshot of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez following his arrest over a plunder case.

The mugshot shows Romualdez lying on a hospital bed with a detainee shirt placed over his body. Officials explained that the standard procedure could not be fully followed because he was receiving medical treatment and had medical equipment attached to him, including an intravenous line.

According to the DILG, Romualdez’s health condition required adjustments during the documentation process. Because he was confined to a hospital bed, authorities were unable to take a traditional booking photograph or have him wear the detainee shirt in the usual manner.

The former lawmaker was arrested after the Office of the Ombudsman filed a plunder case involving an alleged P7.4 billion fund-related issue. Details of the case remain under legal proceedings as authorities continue to process the charges.

Romualdez remains admitted at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City. His camp has stated that he has a documented history of heart-related illnesses and is undergoing treatment for several medical conditions.

Among the health issues cited by his camp are coronary artery disease, unstable angina, cerebrovascular ischemic disease, Type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Reports also indicated that he recently experienced cardiovascular complications, unstable blood pressure, and anxiety-related symptoms.

Despite his hospitalization, authorities confirmed that Romualdez is already under police custody while legal proceedings move forward.
