Jeepney Driver Sells Vegetables Instead of Operating His Vehicle Rising Fuel Prices
A jeepney driver chose to sell vegetables for the meantime instead of operating his vehicle due to the rising cost of diesel.
A jeepney driver in Legazpi City has found a different way to earn a living as fuel prices continue to rise. Instead of going out on his usual route, he now spends his days selling vegetables to support his family.
Boyet Nuñez shared that driving a jeepney has become too costly because of the high price of diesel. The supposed to be enough for a full day of work now barely lasts for a few trips.

With around P1,000 worth of fuel, he can only get about five liters, which is not enough to sustain his daily operations. After just a couple of rounds, he may already lose money, especially if there are not enough passengers.
Boyet decided to stop from driving and try selling vegetables instead. Although the income is not always stable, he said it helps them get by without the risk of losing money. On some days, he is able to earn a small profit, which is better than ending up with nothing after a long day on the road.
He shared that it has been a difficult adjustment, but he is doing his best to find ways to provide for his family. Like many others, he has to be resourceful and open to new ways of earning.
Sometimes, he sources vegetables on credit and pays for them later once he earns enough. Despite the challenges, Boyet still hopes to return to driving his jeepney someday. It has been his main source of income for years, and he takes pride in his work.
As of this writing, he continues to sell vegetables, holding on to the hope that fuel prices will become more manageable so he can go back to the job he knows best.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the driver’s sentiments:
