Amid the High Fuel Costs in PH, Jeepney Drivers, Delivery Riders’ Income Greatly Affected

Jeepney drivers and delivery riders in the Philippines are seeking for long-term solutions amid the increasing costs of fuel.

The pump prices in the Philippines have taken an upward trend since the war in the Middle East broke out. At least three (3) oil price hikes have been implemented already as the war that directly involve Iran, the United States, and Israel continue.

Countless jeepney drivers and delivery riders are heavily affected by the high fuel costs in the Philippines amid the Middle East war. Iran vowed to avenge the deaths of its government officials and civilians from the joint airstrikes of U.S. and Israel.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who was one of those who ordered the strike, defended his move. Trump said it was meant to stop Iran from allegedly pursuing nuclear weapons and destroying the world. He warned Iran of a much harder attack if it will disrupt the global oil flow.

However, the warning of the U.S. President did not scare off Iran. Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz which is a vital passageway for global oil shipments towards the vessels linked to Israel and U.S. Trump previously gave them a 48-hour ultimatum to open the Strait or they will attack the powerplants of Iran.

Instead of opening the Strait, Iran warned that it might close it to everyone. The Iranian officials are firm that they are not considering negotiations with U.S.

Based on a report on GMA News, the jeepney drivers and delivery rides are now calling for long-term solutions to the problem of high fuel costs in the country. The call came amid the reports that diesel may hit P170 per liter next week.

Gasoline is also expected to increase next week. Aside from another big-time oil price hike set on April 7, 2026, the increase in the fuel costs in the country is expected to continuously take an upward trend as there is still no hint of peace in the Middle East.
