LTO-6 Seeks 4-Year Driver’s License Revocation for Iloilo Optometrist After Hit-and-Run

The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has recommended a four-year revocation of the driver’s license of a 29-year-old optometrist over an alleged hit-and-run in Iloilo City, according to the Philippine News Agency.

In a resolution dated October 27, 2026, LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II found the driver administratively liable for reckless driving and for failing to fulfill his duties after an accident, based on The Manila Times, which reported on November 6, 2026. The PNA story was published on November 5 at 10:54 a.m.

The incident happened at around 12:45 a.m. on October 11 along Coastal Road in Barangay Baldoza, La Paz, the Daily Guardian reported. The Honda Accord driven by the optometrist allegedly hit a sari-sari store, then a parked motorcycle about 50 meters away, before the driver fled toward La Granja without helping anyone or reporting the crash, based on The Manila Times.

Police later caught up with the vehicle in Barangay Caingin. The Manila Times reported that the driver allegedly refused police instructions and tried to ram officers, who then opened fire. The optometrist, described as a second cousin of Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas, was hit in the abdomen and underwent surgery.

LTO-6 issued a show-cause order on October 12 and preventively suspended his license on October 14. His representative surrendered the license on October 19. In his written explanation, the driver argued that the police blotter was not enough to prove reckless driving, and said he fled out of fear in a dark residential area, claiming that three police officers shot at him.

LTO-6 rejected those arguments. The agency said striking two separate stationary structures showed a failure to exercise reasonable caution given the hour and road conditions, and that the alleged shooting happened after he had already left the scene.

The recommended revocation still needs approval from the LTO Central Office, while the 90-day preventive suspension remains in effect and administrative fines are also recommended, the PNA reported. The Iloilo City Police Office separately filed charges of direct assault, attempted homicide and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property against the driver on October 12.
