Cardinal Jose Advincula of Manila urged journalists to keep seeking the truth and hold officials accountable amid corruption and other government issues.

Speaking at the 47th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) on Nov. 19, he called on media practitioners to uphold honesty despite harassment, trolling, and disinformation.

“We will not stop until the truth comes out. We will never tire of pursuing justice and restitution,” Advincula said.

The awards, themed “Share with gentleness the hope that is in your hearts,” recognized individuals, organizations, and programs that exemplify honesty and courage in reporting.

The cardinal reminded attendees that the theme challenges media practitioners to remain vigilant in an era of misinformation.

“Our media landscape today is marked by harassment, trolling, disinformation, and intimidation,” Advincula said. “But remember: it is better to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.”

He warned that widening political divisions threaten the nation’s sense of shared humanity and urged Filipinos not to trade integrity for self-interest.

As honorary chairman of the CMMA, Advincula encouraged awardees to use their platforms to expose wrongdoing and hold leaders accountable.

“We would be remiss in our mission if we were not ready to hold people accountable for their lies and trickery,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by CMMA board officials, including Balanga Bishop Rufino Sescon Jr., as well as representatives from the arts, media, and Church sectors.
