The spokesperson of VP Sara Duterte made this statement
Lawyer Paolo Panelo said that Vice President Sara Duterte is prepared to replace President Bongbong if he resigns.
The conflict between Marcos and Duterte continue to expand. From being running mates in the 2022 elections, the unexpected falling out happened and this divided their Uniteam.
In a recent statement, based on the report from One News, VP Sara’s spokesperson stressed that was elected as the Vice President so she was actually the one the people voted for to replace Pres. Marcos, if he would resign.
Panelo strongly defended the Vice President against criticisms that her calls for the President’s resignation are politically motivated and self-serving.
The VP’s spokesperson emphasized that as the duly elected Vice President, she is constitutionally mandated and she was voted by Filipino people to take over the presidency, if the President will step down. Panelo stressed that this means that there is no conflict of interest exists.
“She was elected as the Vice President so she was actually the one the people voted for to replace the President if he would resign, so I don’t think this is self-serving or, as some might say, a conflict of interest because for her and for many Filipinos, it’s not really good for the country for the President to remain in office,” Panelo stressed.
Speaking at a recent interview in Quezon City, VP Sara Duterte labeled Pres. Bongbong Marcos the “problem of the nation.” She is blaming his administration for widespread corruption, abuse, and political harassment targeting her and her family.
The lawyer said that when the Vice President declared her intention to run for president in the 2028 elections, meant that she believes in her ability to change the system or the practices in the government.
“Because we saw here under President Marcos’ leadership massive corruption, including the flood control scam, violations of the law that almost every month we have a new creative way to interpret the law that we didn’t study in law school,” Panelo said.
Meanwhile, following VP Sara’s tirade against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, during a pro-Duterte event, calling him “bangag, sinungaling, korap,” the President opted not to answer back, but just said, “You cannot force anyone to love you.”
