19-Year-Old Student Arrested in Alleged Extortion Case Involving Government Employee
A 19-year-old female student was arrested after extorting money from a government employee in General Santos City.
The National Bureau of Investigation-Sarangani District Office (NBI-SARDO) arrested the young woman after she was accused of extorting money from a government employee.
The suspect, a resident of Polomolok, South Cotabato, allegedly demanded large sums of money from a 54-year-old government worker, with the total amount involved reaching P659,000.
Based on the investigation, the two first became acquainted through a dating website in November 2025. Their online communication later led to a personal meeting at a shopping mall in December of the same year.
According to the complaint filed by the government employee, the pair met again in January 2026 and eventually became involved in a personal relationship. Several months later, in April 2026, the young woman reportedly informed the man that she was pregnant.
The complaint stated that after revealing the pregnancy, the student allegedly began asking for money on several occasions. Some of the requests were reportedly connected to expenses related to the pregnancy.
Authorities said the demands continued over the following months and gradually increased. Investigators also learned that the woman allegedly threatened to inform the man’s parents about what had happened between them and warned that legal action could be taken if he refused to provide money.
The complainant claimed that he initially handed over P300,000. Additional requests allegedly followed, including P35,000 and P150,000 for other expenses. In September, the student reportedly asked for another P70,000.
The latest demand prompted the government employee to seek help from authorities. An operation was then conducted behind the General Santos City Hall, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The NBI-SARDO is continuing its investigation to determine the appropriate charges that may be filed in connection with the case.
