P51 Million Set for OVP Travel Expenses in 2027
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has proposed P51 million for travel expenses in 2027, according to budget discussions at the House Committee on Appropriations on September 2.
The proposed travel budget is part of the OVP’s overall P785.2 million budget request for next year. Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Sarah Elago questioned the agency’s travel allocation during the hearing.
OVP Director Rosalynne Sanchez said the OVP spent P56 million on travel in 2025. Of this amount, P12.9 million was used for foreign travel, while P32.5 million was spent on local trips. The expenses covered OVP personnel and some travel costs of security personnel.
For 2026, the OVP was also given P56 million for travel expenses under the General Appropriations Act. The proposed P51 million for 2027 is therefore P5 million lower than this year’s allocation.
The travel budget is included under the OVP’s Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses, or MOOE. This covers the agency’s regular operating costs.
The proposed P51 million allocation means travel remains a major expense in the OVP’s operating budget. However, the amount is still subject to review and approval as Congress continues its deliberations on the proposed 2027 national budget.
The budget hearing gives lawmakers an opportunity to examine the OVP’s proposed spending and ask questions about how public funds will be used.
For 2027, the OVP is seeking a total budget of P785.2 million, with P51 million intended for travel. This is lower than the P56 million allocated for travel in both 2025 and 2026.
The final travel budget may still change before the 2027 national budget is approved. Congress will continue reviewing the OVP’s proposed expenses before deciding on the final amount.
