Alan and Pia Cayetano Back Home Following Brief Singapore Stay
CAYETANO – The return of Alan and Pia Cayetano to the Philippines has renewed interest in their recent trip to Singapore.
Siblings and senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano have returned to the Philippines following a short stay in Singapore that attracted public attention amid ongoing inquiries connected to Alan’s previous role as Senate president.
Alan arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport late Saturday, September 12, after spending three days outside the country. According to sources cited by Philstar.com, the senator traveled back on a Singapore Airlines flight that touched down at around 11:12 p.m.
Following his arrival, Alan addressed the issue during a livestream and characterized his Singapore trip as private. However, he did not provide details regarding the reason for his visit or the activities he pursued while abroad.
“I’m back, I don’t know why nagkaroon ng malaking issue. I don’t know why the discussions became personal,” Alan said.
The senator’s departure had generated questions, particularly because of an ongoing investigation involving alleged irregularities connected to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games organizing committee, which Alan previously chaired.
Despite the attention surrounding their travel, neither Alan nor Pia was prevented from leaving the country. The Bureau of Immigration previously confirmed that there were no hold departure orders or derogatory records issued against either sibling when they departed for Singapore.
Some lawmakers also offered information about Alan’s trip. Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said the senator traveled for health-related reasons. Sen. Panfilo Lacson likewise said he understood that Alan’s Singapore visit could have been connected to medical concerns.
Pia, for her part, provided a different explanation for her presence in Singapore. She said she traveled there to show support for the Philippine National Padel Team, which was preparing for the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Padel is set to make its Asian Games debut as a medal event, making the competition an important milestone for the Philippine team and the growing sport.
Alan’s September 9 departure nevertheless remained under scrutiny because the National Bureau of Investigation is currently developing a case linked to its wider probe into alleged anomalies surrounding the organization of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
The senator’s return to the Philippines now places him back in the country as authorities continue their investigation and gather information related to the case.
