In a heroic moment, the Coast Guard rescued a drunken beachgoer struggling in the surf in the Philippines.
Footage shows emergency responders rushing into choppy waters to save the holidaymaker in Aparri, Cagayan, on April 2.
Reports said the 41-year-old visitor had ventured into the sea before getting into difficulty, prompting rescuers to respond at around 5:41 p.m. local time.
The Philippine Coast Guard said in a statement: “Deployable Response Group (DRG) Northeastern Luzon (NELZN) team immediately responded and rescued the victim, and safely brought him to shore.”
“At about 6:04 pm, the team transported the victim to Aparri Provincial Hospital for medical assessment, where he was found to be in stable condition but under the influence of liquor.”
“The victim was later turned over to Municipal Police Station in Aparri for appropriate action for violation of Executive Order No 2026-023 or the Liquor Ban.”
The sale, distribution, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places across Aparri are prohibited during Holy Week.
The Coast Guard reminded the public to follow safety protocols to ensure an accident-free holiday.
