Cops Arrest College Student for Faking Kidnapping to Extort Money From Parents
A college student in Batangas was arrested after allegedly staging his own kidnapping in an attempt to extort money from his parents.
According to police investigators, the incident started when the 19-year-old college student’s mother received a message from her son’s social media account demanding a ransom of P300,000 in exchange for his supposed release.
The message alarmed the family, who feared that the young man had been abducted and was being held against his will.
Authorities said the sender gave the parents only two hours to raise the money. To make the threat appear real, videos were also sent to the family. One video reportedly showed the student crying, while another contained what appeared to be a farewell message intended for his parents.
Fearing for their son’s safety, the family immediately sought help from law enforcement authorities. Police quickly launched an investigation and began tracing the student’s movements and activities.
The authorities were able to locate the young man at a hotel through backtracking efforts. Upon further investigation, police discovered that no kidnapping had actually taken place. The entire incident had allegedly been planned by the student himself.
The student later admitted his involvement in the scheme. According to investigators, he confessed that he intended to use the money to pay off debts linked to gambling.
Authorities reminded the public to immediately report suspicious messages or ransom demands to the police so that proper investigations can be conducted. The student is now expected to face the appropriate charges as legal proceedings move forward.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities prepare the necessary complaints against the suspect.
