Fake DSWD Worker Stole P15,000 & Euros From Elderly Woman

An elderly woman loses over P15,000 and Euros after being a victim of a theft scheme of alleged fake DSWD worker in Ibajay, Aklan.

Around 4:30 p.m. on September 8, 2026, an 88-year-old woman became the victim of a theft scheme after three individuals pretending to be government workers allegedly took cash and foreign currency from her home in Barangay Regador.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on September 8 in Barangay Regador. According to police reports, the elderly woman was sitting on the terrace of her house with an 80-year-old neighbor when a man approached them and introduced himself as a worker from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The man reportedly told the two senior citizens that they could receive ₱10,000 in financial assistance. To support the claim, he asked the elderly woman to present her Senior Citizen ID.

As the woman searched for her identification card, the suspect asked permission to use the restroom. The victim accompanied him inside the house and led him to her bedroom, where the restroom was located. It was also in that room where she kept an envelope containing money and other valuables.

A short time later, two more individuals arrived and also asked to use the restroom. While the first suspect continued talking with the elderly woman outside, the other two were believed to have entered the room and taken the envelope.
