Mother Gives Birth Unexpectedly in Sipalay Public Market Restroom
A mother who was unaware she was pregnant gave birth in a restroom at Sipalay Public Market in Negros Occidental.
The woman was selling herbal medicine at the Sipalay Public Market when the unexpected delivery happened.
Barangay personnel assigned to the market rushed to assist, but at the time, no midwife was available. The midwife on duty for Barangay 1 also serves Barangay 3, which delayed immediate help.
The barangay officials quickly contacted the midwife and suggested calling rescue services to ensure the mother and newborn were safe.
According to the mother, she only realized something was happening when she heard the cries of her baby. She had been surprised by the labor because she had not experienced typical pregnancy symptoms and had been taking pills, believing she could not become pregnant. This was her fifth child.
She and her husband are residents of Pangayaw, Sipalay City, and sell herbal remedies in the public market. Despite the unexpected circumstances, the mother managed to deliver the baby safely, and the newborn was immediately taken care of in the restroom before being transferred to the Barangay 1 birthing center.
Both mother and child received medical attention and are now reported to be in good health. After recovery, they were able to return home safely.
The incident reminds the public that pregnancies can sometimes go unnoticed, emphasizing the need for awareness about reproductive health and prenatal check-ups.
