Taxi Driver Who Urinates in the Middle of the Road Now Has to Answer LTO’s Call
A taxi driver in Iloilo City is now facing an investigation after urinating beside his vehicle in the middle of a busy road in in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region VI shared a video of the driver responding to a personal need while his taxi remained on a highway.
In the video, the vehicle could be seen stopped on the road with one of its doors open as the driver stood beside it. Other vehicles were also passing through the area at the time.
Following the incident, LTO Region VI issued a Show Cause Order to both the taxi driver and the vehicle operator. The order requires them to explain why they should not face administrative charges in connection with the incident.
According to LTO officials, drivers of public utility vehicles are expected to follow traffic regulations and maintain proper conduct at all times. They are also expected to show professionalism and consideration toward passengers, fellow motorists, and the public.
“A public utility vehicle is not just another car on the road. It’s driver is expected to observe traffic rules, exercise courtesy and professionalism, and avoid conduct that could endanger or inconvenience the riding public and other motorists,” LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II said.
Authorities believe the driver’s actions may have caused inconvenience to other road users and could have contributed to slower traffic flow in the area. The incident is also being reviewed for possible violations of transportation regulations that cover reckless, discourteous, or improper behavior by public utility vehicle drivers.
Investigators further noted that existing traffic laws prohibit actions that obstruct or interfere with the movement of vehicles on public roads.
The taxi operator was given five working days from the receipt of the order to submit an explanation and identify the driver involved in the incident. The driver was also instructed to provide a written explanation and submit a copy of his valid driver’s license.
