Bottles and Angry Shouts Greet Tito Sotto Outside Senate
TITO SOTTO – A tense scene unfolded outside the Senate after Senator Tito Sotto claimed he was harassed and assaulted by an unruly crowd.
Senator Vicente Sotto III expressed anger and disappointment toward members of the Philippine National Police and other security personnel after he was allegedly harassed by protesters while leaving the Senate on Wednesday evening, May 13.
According to reports, Sotto’s vehicle was reportedly banged on, cursed at, and pelted with glasses filled with water as he attempted to leave the Senate premises. The former Senate President was said to be alone inside the vehicle and driving without any bodyguards during the incident.

In a social media post, Sotto openly shared his frustration over what happened and criticized the authorities assigned to maintain order outside the Senate.
“I am furious and disappointed with the PNP and other security personnel assigned outside the Senate for failing to control the rowdy and unruly crowd, allowing them to assault me while inside my vehicle when I was about to exit the Senate,” said the former Senate President.
“The barbaric protesters banged my vehicle repeatedly, threw bottles and cursed foul remarks. They can see that I am driving alone with no bodyguards,” he added. “Ilang truck na PNP ang nakadeploy sa Senate, tapos ganito?”
Sotto also questioned the behavior of the protesters, whom he described as supporters of certain senators who were reportedly rallying outside the Senate that evening.
“Ganito na ba kawalang respeto at walanghiya ang mga taga suporta ng ilang Senador na nag rarally ngayong gabi?” said Sotto.

The incident came just days after major political developments in the Senate. On Monday, May 11, Sotto was removed from his position as Senate President and was replaced by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
Meanwhile, Sotto was also among the senators who filed Senate Resolution No. 395. The resolution urges Senator Ronald dela Rosa to surrender and follow legal remedies under the Constitution and other laws instead of allegedly evading the warrant of arrest issued by the International Criminal Court against him.
