Iloilo City Hospital Faces Investigation for Allegedly Refusing Help for Motorcycle Rider Injured in Road Accident
Iloilo City hospital is facing criticism online for allegedly refusing to help a motorcycle rider who was seriously injured in a road accident.
The incident took place at around 4:00 a.m. on August 27, 2026, along Dra. Rizalina V. Bernardo Avenue in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao. According to reports, the rider figured in a vehicular accident just a short distance from the hospital’s emergency room.
A video recorded by an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) showed the rider lying on the road with a head injury. The victim was reportedly bleeding and unconscious at the time.
Concerned by what he witnessed, the OFW went to the nearby hospital to seek immediate assistance for the injured rider. However, he claimed that hospital guards and staff did not respond to the situation.
Instead, he was reportedly advised to contact the Iloilo City Emergency Response (ICER) and the police.
The incident raised concern among residents and local officials, especially because the accident occurred very close to a medical facility that could have potentially provided emergency care.
During a privilege speech at the Iloilo City Council, Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna pushed for an investigation in aid of legislation to review the emergency response protocols being followed by hospitals in the city.
Cabaluna emphasized the need for clear and consistent guidelines when medical emergencies happen near healthcare facilities. He urged the Committee on Health to gather representatives from hospitals, the Department of Health Region 6, the Philippine National Police, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office through ICER, and the City Health Office.
The planned discussions aim to establish clearer procedures and responsibilities during emergencies to help ensure that accident victims receive timely assistance when every minute matters.
