Male Employee Arrested After Using Co-Worker’s Deposit Money to Pay Personal Debts
A 24-year-old male employee was arrested after allegedly using money entrusted to him by a co-worker to pay his own debts.
On Wednesday (September 9, 2026), the victim asked the suspect to deposit P200,000 into a personal bank account. The victim trusted the suspect because they had worked together for a long time and the man was already familiar with handling bank transactions.
“Inantay siya ng complainant para bumalik, hindi na siya bumalik… hindi na rin siya matawagan, hindi sumasagot sa cellphone and then sa text messages,” Eastwood Police Duty Officer Police Lieutenant Juan Solares said.
After receiving the money, the suspect reportedly failed to provide any updates about the deposit. As time passed, the victim became worried when the man did not return and could no longer be contacted through phone calls or text messages.
The victim sought help from co-workers and authorities. Their efforts eventually led them to the suspect’s residence, where they confronted him about the funds.
During the confrontation, the suspect presented a bank transaction slip showing a deposit of only P50,000. Investigators later learned that the remaining P150,000 had not been deposited as instructed.
According to police, the suspect admitted that he used the missing amount to settle his personal debts. Further questioning revealed that he had become heavily involved in online casino gambling, which allegedly contributed to his financial problems and influenced his decision to use the money.
“Pambayad ko po sa utang ko po,” the suspect explained.
Authorities first brought the matter before the barangay in an attempt to reach an agreement for the return of the funds. However, efforts to settle the issue failed, leading the victim to file a formal complaint.
Police said the suspect does not appear to have a previous record of similar offenses. Despite this, he is now facing a case of estafa and is being held at the custodial facility of the Eastwood Police Station.
