Former president Rodrigo Duterte will be facing an ICC trial before these judges.
RODRIGO DUTERTE ICC TRIAL – The International Criminal Court (ICC) named the judges assigned to handle the former president’s case.
Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is to face trial before the International Criminal Court. This is after the judges confirmed charges of crimes against humanity linked to his anti-drug campaign when he was still the country’s chief executive.

Recently, the ICC named the judges forming Trial Chamber III. They will handle the crimes against humanity cases of Duterte. The ICC stated about the three judges, “The Judges of the ICC are persons of high moral character, impartiality and integrity who possess the qualifications required in their respective States for appointment to the highest judicial offices.”
Who are the judges?
Joanna Korner (United Kingdom)
A seasoned British jurist with over 45 years in criminal law, she has served both as a barrister and a judge. Since 2012, she has been a judge of the Crown Court of England and Wales, presiding over complex cases such as fraud and murder. She also spent eight years as a senior prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, where she led several prominent war crimes prosecutions.

Keebong Paek (Republic of Korea)
He brings more than 30 years of experience as a prosecutor and legal expert and was elected to the ICC in 2023. Beginning his career in 1992, he handled a broad range of criminal cases. Paek later served as a senior adviser at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, specializing in transnational crime, terrorism, and international cooperation. He also played a key role in drafting the implementation bill for Korea’s ratification of the Rome Statute and represented the country at sessions of the ICC Preparatory Commission and the Kampala Review Conference. Prior to joining the ICC, he was in private practice, focusing on cross-border investigations and international criminal law.

Nicolas Guillou (France)
He previously served as a pre-trial judge at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and was elected as an ICC judge in 2023. He currently handles cases involving war crimes and crimes against humanity. Earlier in his career, he was Chef de Cabinet to the President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and worked as a liaison prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice. He began his legal career as an investigative judge in France and specializes in international and European criminal law.
