LTO TODA Rescue 2026 Program Trains Tricycle Drivers to Become First Responders During Road Emergencies

Tricycle drivers are being trained not only as public transport providers but to become potential first responders during accidents and road emergencies.

LTO TODA Rescue 2026 program in Barangay San Isidro, Montalban, Rizal, launched the initiative. Members of the local Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) received training on road safety, first aid, basic life support, emergency response, and proper accident scene management.

The Land Transportation Office said the training is important because tricycle drivers spend much of their time on the road, putting them in a good position to witness or reach an accident before professional emergency teams arrive.

Through the program, drivers are taught how to respond properly when someone is injured or in danger. Their training can help them provide basic assistance, keep an injured person safe, and prevent further harm while waiting for medical personnel and other responders.

The activity was led by the LTO Cainta Extension Office and the LTO Montalban District Office, with support from the local government, the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and TODA officers and members.

The program also gives drivers a chance to learn practical skills that they can use not only while working but also when emergencies happen in their communities. Knowing how to perform basic first aid or respond calmly during an accident can make an important difference while professional help is still on the way.

For LTO Region IV-A, the initiative is part of its effort to promote safer roads and better-prepared communities. Instead of simply passing by an emergency, trained drivers can become extra hands that help protect lives.

The LTO hopes similar efforts will continue to strengthen road safety awareness and emergency preparedness among transport workers in other areas.
