VP Sara Duterte Posts Bail Over Grave Threats Case
Vice President Sara Duterte posted bail after a Quezon City court issued an arrest warrant against her over three counts of grave threats.
On Saturday (September 5, 2026), VP Duterte was able to post bail over grave threats case. The case stems from alleged threats involving President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 98 issued the warrant on Friday (September 4) after finding probable cause to proceed with the cases. Bail was set at P120,000 for each count.
Before heading to court, Duterte raised concerns about her safety and the possible impact of the case on her family. She said she had recorded threats and harassment against her since 2023 and expressed particular concern for her children.
Duterte also claimed that police went to the location where her children were staying even after she had left the area to attend court proceedings. She said the situation made her feel unsafe and worried about what could happen to her.
Her lawyers argued that the court should not have jurisdiction over the complaints and raised questions involving the procedural protections given to impeachable officials while they remain in office.
Despite the legal challenge, Duterte’s camp maintained that she had no intention of avoiding the law. Her lawyers said they would continue using the available legal remedies as the proceedings move forward.
On September 5, Duterte arrived at the Quezon City Hall of Justice with her lawyers, Michael Poa and Lawrence Lim, following the issuance of the arrest warrant. Her appearance before the court marked the next step in the legal process.
Duterte ultimately posted bail for the grave threats case. Following the payment of bail, the Quezon City court lifted the arrest warrant, and she was considered surrendered, according to her lawyer Michael Poa.
