Woman Went Missing After Visiting DFA to Apply for Passport
A woman in Parañaque City went missing after visiting the Department of Foreign Affairs office to apply for a passport.
Authorities continue their search for 56-year-old Elpidia Laylo, who has been missing since May 4, 2026, after visiting the DFA office in Parañaque City to apply for a passport.
Elpidia traveled from Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro with her son Michael and two nephews for the important appointment. According to the family, Elpidia was preparing for a possible trip abroad after her youngest child in Australia planned to take her on a vacation outside the country.

Since only Elpidia and one of her nephews had confirmed appointments at the DFA, they were the only ones allowed to enter the office. While waiting for them to finish the passport process, Michael and another relative briefly went to the nearby PITX terminal to use the restroom.
While they were there, Michael received a call informing him that his mother had suddenly gone missing at around 8:29 in the morning. Her nephew reportedly became distracted while processing documents and later realized that Elpidia was no longer beside him.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the area and traced some of the places Elpidia passed through after leaving the DFA compound. Authorities said she was seen heading toward Ayala Mall before walking along Bradco Avenue and later reaching Macapagal Boulevard. That was reportedly the last recorded sighting of her on CCTV cameras.
Investigators also checked surveillance footage at PITX, but there was no sign that Elpidia went there.
Michael shared that his mother has always been a quiet person who does not usually interact with strangers. The family is worried about her condition, especially since she reportedly had no money with her when she disappeared.
Every day, Michael and his relatives continue searching the streets of Pasay and Parañaque while putting up missing person posters in different areas. The family is holding on to hope that someone may recognize Elpidia and help bring her home safely.
To encourage people to help, the family is offering a P20,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that may lead to her location. Authorities are also asking the public to immediately report any possible sightings as the search continues.
